  • Most one day courses start at 10.00 am, some tutors start earlier so please refer to your confirmation email or check with your tutor.

  • Please arrive by 9.55 but no earlier than 9.45 to allow time for set up.

  • Course finish time is usually around 4.00 but may vary.

  • If it is 1:1 we will finish earlier.

  • If there is an odd number of students in the class we may run over time.

  • Half day courses eg Lash & Brow Treatments usually start at 10 am and finish at 1 pm (unless specified otherwise).

Do I need to bring anything with me?

  • Advice for restricting transmission during the Covid-19 pandemic means that we are switching to e-versions of manuals; you will be sent a PDF version of your manual and will need to bring a tablet or laptop to view this or print out your manual and bring it with you.

  • Your own notebook and pen

  • Your own face mask plus a face mask for your model

  • For most courses all products and equipment are provided for you - products, towels, oils etc. Occasionally, they are not. Please check with your tutor.

  • For some courses you will need to purchase and bring a kit with you. This is specified on the course page. Please check with your tutor before booking and attending the course.

  • If you are studying Swedish Massage, Holistic Massage, Aromatherapy or Reflexology you will need to have provided a copy of your certificate in Anatomy & Physiology on booking.

  • Please bring a packed lunch unless your tutor has told you that lunch can be bought nearby to the venue. Tea and coffee are provided.

  • If you are doing a refresher course, you will need to bring a model, your original treatment routine and your certificate/s in the treatment/s you are refreshing.

  • Please check with your tutor regarding the need to bring a model. Usually, you will work on another student if there is more than one person on the course. Some tutors will be working on a 1:1 basis. During the Covid-19 pandemic, your model should preferably be a person from your own household bubble.

What shall I wear?

  • You will need to bring a face mask.

  • If you are bringing a model with you, they will also need a face mask.

  • Please wear salon uniform if you can. If not, please wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement for giving treatments especially for massage courses.

  • If you have long hair this needs to be tied up.

  • Nails should be clean, short and free of polish or extensions.

  • Jewellery should be restricted to small stud earrings and a wedding band.

I’m nervous about learning something new; any advice?

  • It is normal to feel a little anxious before we do something completely new to us.  However, our tutors are all qualified teachers and are experts in their field.  They will put you at your ease and ensure that you feel comfortable in your learning.

  • Relax and enjoy your course.

What happens if I can’t attend my course?

Is there a lot of theory or is the course ‘hands on’?

  • Amethyst courses are designed so that you learn essential theory including Health & Safety relevant to the subject and how to carry out a consultation.  This part of the day usually takes 45 minutes - 1 hour.

  • The remainder of the day is practical so that you can learn your routine.

Is there any support after the course?

  • Your tutor will be available by email or phone if you have any questions after you have done the course.

Will I get my certificate on the day of the course?

  • From 1st April 2022 you will receive an e-certificate (rather than a printed one) a few days after your course.

  • If you want a printed certificate, this will cost £10.

  • The vast majority of students will pass their course and successful students will be sent their certificate by Head Office a few days after their course. Please allow 7-10 days for your certificate to arrive.

  • Occasionally a student may not pass.  In this situation, case studies will be set and re-assessment arranged.  There will be an extra charge for this.

Will you come to my salon to train staff?

  • Most Amethyst tutors will travel to do in-house training in your salon or therapy room.  Travel time and fuel costs will be incurred; please discuss this with your tutor. This option may be affected during the Covid-19 pandemic.
