Welcome to the JANUARY newsletter

‘And now let us welcome the New Year, full of things that have never been.’

Rainer Maria Rilke

A belated Happy New Year to you all.  January is named after Janus, the god with two heads – one looking backward into the old year and one looking forward into the new.  Now is the time to look back and do a little stock taking then celebrate 2011 before you move forward into 2012.

Ask yourself:

  • What am I proud of?
  • What lessons did I learn?
  • What dreams came true?
  • 2011 led me to...
  • I am thankful for...

NOW you can start to set your intentions for 2012:

  • What do I want to achieve?
  • What do I want to experience?
  • What do I REALLY want to do in 2012?

Have fun!

Essential oil of the month

JUNIPER

Juniper is a cleansing oil, ideal to burn while you are doing the exercise above as it clears the head and brings clarity of purpose.  It works on the violet ray supporting mind and spirit as we pursue our aims with sincerity.  It brings spiritual knowledge and understanding when used for meditation.  Use it for clients who have experienced emotional negativity, guilt and fear; it lifts us up from feelings of worthlessness, bringing peace and wisdom.

 Treatment of the month

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE

Indian Head Massage is based on traditional Indian massage techniques. It involves work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face using a variety of massage movements to relieve accumulated tension, stimulate circulation and restore joint mobility.  Head massage revitalises the whole body, rebalancing the energy flow to the body and creating a feeling of peace and well being.

An excellent stress buster, both relaxing and uplifting, it is good for clearing the head and easing tense shoulders. Great for office workers, Indian Head Massage can be done without oil through light clothing, so is perfect for corporate work.  The routine you will learn is based on the Mehta method of Indian head massage, developed by Narendra Mehta who brought the formalised treatment to the West.

The course costs £120 and carries 9 CPD points.

Amethyst offers courses in Hot Stone Therapy at venues in the North East, Colchester, Cornwall, Derbyshire, Edinburgh, Essex, Glasgow, Hull, Isle of Wight, Leicester, Midlands, North West, Oxford, South Wales, South Yorkshire, Swindon, West Sussex and York.  Full course objectives can be seen at http://www.amethystholistictraining.co.uk/indian-head-massage/

Welcome to the DECEMBER newsletter

‘I open the door.  The gorgeous guest from afar sweeps in.   In her hands are her gifts – the gifts of hours and far-seeing moments, the gift of mornings and evenings, the gift of spring and summer, the gift of autumn and winter.  She must have searched the heavens for boons so rare.’

Abbie Graham

What gifts are you are you giving yourself this month?  Remember to make some time for you in the hurly burly of family, gift buying, meal preparation, eating and drinking.  What are you celebrating for yourself as we say goodbye to 2011? What have you achieved this year; what have you learnt; what are you proud of? What do you want to leave behind so that you can move forward in to 2012?   Try this simple release/completion ritual:

  • Take a slip of white paper
  • Write down feelings, fears, people or events you want to release
  • Light a white candle
  • Say aloud ‘I am ready to release and create space for the new to manifest.
  • Burn the paper (safely!)
  • Reflect and record your feelings if you wish...

Essential oil of the month

FRANKINCENSE

If you are doing the release ritual above, put some Frankincense in a burner to aid in the cleansing process.  Frankincense also balances and protects.  Working on the violet/gold ray and the crown chakra, this essence is healing both emotionally and physically. Its message is that the universal force moves only forward – there is no going back.  Entirely appropriate for the Christmas season, it was one of the gifts to the baby Jesus.

Treatment of the month

HOT STONE THERAPY

A fabulous treatment for the winter months – it really should be part of your treatment menu if it isn’t already!  An American massage therapist, Mary Nelson, was the founder of the original hot stone therapy which she called 'LaStone'.  She wanted a system that would enable her to continue her therapy practice while easing her stiff and painful wrist joints.  However, use of the stones is much more than a tool for the therapist; the warmth of the stones is truly comforting and they connect us with Mother Earth, grounding our vibrations.

Please note a previous qualification in massage (eg Swedish or Aromatherapy) is a pre-requisite for this course.  The course costs £120 and carries 9 CPD points.

Amethyst offers courses in Hot Stone Therapy at venues in the North East, Colchester, Derbyshire, Edinburgh, Essex, Hull, Isle of Wight, Midlands, North West, Oxford, South Wales, South Yorkshire, Swindon, West Sussex and York.  Full course objectives can be seen at http://www.amethystholistictraining.co.uk/hot-stone-therapy/

ANGELIC REIKI

The next Level 1/2 workshop for Angelic Reiki in the north east will be the 13-15th January and a Master/Teacher workshop 3-5th February.

Hope to see you or hear from you soon!

 Angelic Reiki news (North East)

Dates for 2012:

Level 1/2 Workshop – 13-15th January

Master/Teacher Workshop – 3-5th February

 Essential oil of the month

GINGER (Zingiber Officinale)

Often a ‘love it/hate it’ oil, but very useful, Ginger can be overlooked.  It is a warming, working on the orange/yellow ray and associated with the sacral and throat chakras.  Usually used for problems of the digestive tract and for muscle aches and pains, Ginger is warming and grounding.  It can also help us work on our self confidence, allowing us to express our true thoughts and feelings.  Use it for clients who are feeling worn out emotionally and need to release negativity.

 Treatment of the month

AROMATHERAPY

I have just completed an assessment for one Aromatherapy student and 2 more have started the course this month – a very popular treatment and such a lovely experience to learn about the wonderful essential oils:

Aromatherapy is a wonderful, nourishing experience; it is powerful, therapeutic treatment which combines the essential oils of plants with massage.   Aromatherapy is a truly holistic treatment working on mind, body and spirit.  Aromatherapy can help with a range of conditions and regular aromatherapy treatments will boost the immune system, raise energy levels and instil a feeling of well being.

Amethyst offers courses in Aromatherapy at venues in the North East, Colchester, Cornwall, Edinburgh, Essex, Hull, Midlands, North Yorkshire, North West, Oxfordshire, South Yorkshire and Swindon.

Essential oil of the month

Clary sage (Salvia Sclarea)

Usually associated with the female hormonal system, Clary Sage works on the violet ray and is associated with the crown chakra and the nervous system.  Yes, use it for those female clients with hormonal problems but remember that it is a tonic for the nervous system.  Therefore it is an excellent oil for those suffering from nervous exhaustion or stress.  Grounding and transformative, Clary Sage (or ‘clear eye’) breaks through fears and phobias giving us a new perspective on life.

Nb do not use in pregnancy – keep it for the labour room!

Treatment of the month

BALINESE MASSAGE

It’s here at last – blissful Balinese Massage....

Balinese Massage comes from (surprise!) Bali, one of the Indonesian islands where there is a long history of massage used for healing and well being.  The main aim of the treatment is a relaxed state of mind and a free flow of energy or chi through the body. The procedure combines a variety of techniques: deep, flowing massage, acupressure and aromatherapy.  A luxurious blend of essential oils of jasmine, rose, frankincense and lemongrass are used to add further element to this fabulous treatment.  A previous qualification in massage (eg Swedish or Aromatherapy) is a pre-requisite for this course.

Amethyst offers courses in Aromatherapy at venues in the North East, Essex, North West, Swindon, West Sussex and coming soon to South Yorkshire.

Full course objectives can be seen at
